Is a Tyrannosaurus or a Velociraptor more dangerous? The former is big and fearsome, the latter fast and deadly. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, so it can be difficult to decide which is the better predator.
No, I'm not saying this because I just finished watching the latest Jurassic World, but because this simile is perfect for me when talking about meganiches and microniches. If you don't know what they are, don't worry, because first of all I'll explain what a microniche and a meganiche are (if you don't know yet) and what advantages each one offers.
What is a micro niche and a mega niche?
According to Wikipedia's definition, a niche market is a market segment in which individuals have homogeneous characteristics and needs, and the latter are not fully covered by the general market offer.
Depending on their size, we can talk about micro-niches or facebook database -niches. Micro-niches cover a fairly specific topic, while mega-niches cover a much broader topic.
Translated to the Internet, which is what interests us, a mega niche would be a website with a fairly broad theme, and a micro niche on the other hand would have a very specific theme. I will give an example to make it easier to understand:
Meganicho: todoanimales.com, an animal portal with animal information, food, leisure, care….
Microniche: alimentosparaperros.com, a portal that focuses exclusively on dog food.
Microniche or Meganiche?
The goal when creating a mega niche or a micro niche is usually the same: to make money. But the way they do it is radically different.
Mega niches do this by attracting a lot of visitors.
Microniches do this by attracting a few visitors who make a lot of money.
In both cases, you can get good income. To understand this difference, it must be explained that the most basic way to monetize niches is by placing Adsense advertising . As you know, Adsense pays for the clicks that an ad gets.
There are other ways, such as affiliate programs (Amazon's is the best known) or the sale of information products.
Micro-niche websites are about very specific topics, so the ads they display are highly targeted to the visitor's profile and the chances of a click increase considerably. On the other hand, mega-niche websites are more generic, covering several topics, and the ads they display do not match the visitor's interests as well, which decreases the click-through rate.
