Starting in December, institutional clients across the country were able to apply for a debit card that allows them to pay for purchases using their fingerprint.

Pocztowy Bank is the first in Poland to allow cashless transactions using biometric authentication. The new product, initially intended only for institutional clients of Pocztowy Bank, can now also be used by small and medium-sized businesses.

Biometric cards are a novelty not only in Poland but all over the world. Thales, which developed this advanced technology, supplies its product to only five markets, one of which is European. For Bank Pocztowy and Poczta Polska customers, the use of the latest technology means even more convenient and secure transactions, and for us, supporting the dynamic development of the cashless payment market in Poland - comments Marcin Ledworowski, Member of the Board of Directors of Bank Pocztowy responsible for Business and IT.

Activating the biometric card

The card is sent to customers in a special box containing the b2b email database poland card along with a reader (sleeve device), which is used to encode the fingerprint.

When the LED flashes green and then turns off, remove your thumb from the sensor. The entire thumbprint memorization process must be repeated at least five times.

When the green LED flashes five times, we know that the registration has been successful.
If it is not confirmed that the fingerprint has been stored correctly, the entire process will need to be repeated. The acquired biometric fingerprint pattern is stored only
and exclusively on the payment card and the data itself is not stored in the bank's systems, nor is it sent to a point-of-sale (POS) terminal or ATM when payment is made.

The first card transaction, once the biometric pattern has been encoded, must be carried out with a PIN, by placing the card on a POS terminal or ATM. This operation will activate the card and trigger the biometric authentication capabilities of the transaction. On its own, the biometric EMV will never be discharged. It obtains the energy needed for its use at any given time from the POS terminal and does not require batteries.

It should be noted that in the event of theft the card will be completely useless without the owner's fingerprint . On the other hand, when it is not possible to use the cardholder's fingerprint (for example, when withdrawing cash), a PIN can still be used as an alternative solution.
