What are they up to : It seems they are launching a new social network, called “Artifact” , from the union of the terms “Artificial Intelligence” and “facts” . It is now in beta, with a Landing where you can enter the waiting list to try it. Just google the name to find it.
The structure : There will be mainly 3 spaces. The first will be a Feed entirely managed by machine learning. The second one dedicated to personal profiles that the user has chosen to follow. The third will be a messaging hub for private messages.
The content : In the wake of the social media of the late 2000s, there will be nothing but text content. All articles from carefully chosen sources, whether large newsrooms like the New York Times or small blogs with niche topics. All political views will have freedom of speech, only fake news will be repressed.
The chosen model : AI is at the heart of the matter. We have moved from networks based on social relationships (e.g. Facebook) to those based on interests (e.g. TikTok) , which, according to the two founders, are the solution to detach users from the number of followers and platforms from the number of clicks on links or comments on posts. Artifact will have reading time as its only quality parameter.
Performance so far : From the first online comments from beta testers, the social network seems to guarantee an optimal user experience. So much so that the application automatically switches to dark mode at night and users can choose whether or not to limit comments under a post.
