Brick-and-mortar retail is currently suffering from sales declines of up to 70 percent. The reasons for this are varied: demographic change, changing consumer behavior, technological innovations, and advancing digitalization.
To prevent city centers from "extinction," cities and municipalities must rethink their ig database city center concepts and strive for a change of course.
The question to be asked is: Who lives where, and what are the needs and desires of the people in each city? To revitalize city centers, a vibrant mix of tourism, restaurants and cafés, housing, work and culture, as well as shops, is needed. Some future-oriented concepts already exist; now all that's missing is implementation.
